constipation is the pebble like bms…she is probably just having trouble passing her poo b.c her systems are not fully functioning like yours and mine..my son did the same thing at 2 weeks old..and the pediatrician told me to bicycle his legs ..and man did this work..about an hour later he pooped alot..and my pediatrician also told me that is normal for them not to go for a week..so dont worry yet..good luck and congrats..
~~~ awww,,,,,,if your baby is crying do to this,,,try giving her some baby apple juice,,,dilute it a bit with water,,,that should help. If still she cant have a bowel movement and she is crying,,I would call your pediatrician and ask what to do,,,,,your baby is a newborn so your pediatrician should know best,,,,,,,,,
DO NOT DO ANYTHING as of right now! One day of not pooping is nothign to worry abotu or to try to ‘fix’. Even if your baby usually goes everyday or even several times a day, there may be some tiems that your baby does not go everyday. The docs reccommend that babies (even newborns) do not go longer than 14 days wihtout pooping. It is not considered ‘constipation’ until it has been longer than 14 days, or is coming out in a hard clump (liek adults bowel movements are). If you do anythign to your baby it will throw off his natural system process and it culd mke thigns worse. PLEASE so not give your baby ANYTHING to help him poop yet. Wait until it has been 14 days. If you notice that his tummy is hard and big, or if he is in obvious discomfort (not just crying, but ballign up and screaming or whatever), then call the doc. Until then, nothgin shoudl be given. My baby (who is 4 1/2 months old) usually goes every day, but there are times that he doesnt go for 3 or 4 days. Perhaps those days, his body needed the extra nutrients so he didnt have as much waste to expell. Ya know? So wait a bit before giving anything.
I do nto know if you are a first time mom, but I am, and I know it can be hard to let your little baby sit there and wonder if they have to go but cant…but trust me…you will know if they can not go to the bathroom…they will yell and hollor and scream and grunt and try to go but nothign comes out.
Some people may suggest juice or certain oils…but none of those are necessary for you at this point. Juice is not good to give a baby until they are older anyways. And oils can mes him up internally, since technically nothign is wrong with him right now. He just hasnt gone in one day.
liek I said, a ‘normal’ range is anywhere from once a day to once every 14 days. It all depends on your baby, and his pooping schedule probably will chane as well. Next month, and as he gets older, he may not go as often. So just relax and know that she is just fine.
Good luck and congrats!
First, Is she breast fed???
If she is I wouldn’t worry too much she will go when she needs to. If she is bottle fed just keep an eye on her and if after a few days she still hasn’t take her to a doctor.
This is not constipation. Constipation is hard, pebble-like, difficult to pass poop. Just wait a few days and if she doesn’t have a BM or seems to be in pain trying to have a BM, call the doctor. It is not unusual for infants to go several days without a BM. Don’t give a 2 week old apple juice or mineral oil.
i would not worry about her not doing a bowl movement for a day. shots can make them do that. continue to watch her, and if she does not go by tomorrow afternoon call her pediatrician
when my 15mo old was that little, he didnt poop in 3 days. my pedi said it was okay for them not to poop in 24 hours…but more than 3+ days they need to go to the dr. so thats what i did…she then recommened that i get a kids suposotory & cut of a sliver [ a really small piece ] & use that…it worked.
check with your pedi’s office before you do it!!!
your 2-week old can go several days without having a bm, and all is fine.
now, if she is in pain, my pediatrician said to add an ounce of prune juice to her bottle and if that doesn’t work, to stimulate the behind with just the tip of a rectal thermometer – but that is absolutely only if baby is in pain and not able to pass a bm.
my son was a month old when i got this information.
Try some baby prune juice or if she won’t drink it, try getting normal prune juice and mixing it with mango nectar (helps with the taste too) You can also try “parachoc” available from the pharmacy (I’m in Australia so not sure what the alternative is where you are from) Also cloudy pear juice.
It can be normal for a baby to not have a bowel movement in this amount of time. If your baby is having plenty of wet diapers, is eating well, and is acting normal everything is probably fine. If the baby is fussy or seems to be uncomfortable I would definately contact the pediatrician.
Give her a 1/2 teaspoon of mineral oil. It will help to soften things up. Constipation in babies can be a result of nerous things. If it continues consult your doctor. She may be having a reaction to her formula or it could just be a result of the vaccines.
You really shouldnt worry unless it has been 4 days since the last bowel movement. After that give 2 oz prune juice.
